I. AM. OPTIMUS.

This incredible scrap metal statue stands tall and proud behind his fence at a restaurant two blocks from our NY apt. The first time i noticed him i honestly took a double take and started geeking out and taking hundreds of photos.

From left:

  • I bought this pair here, sadly the combat boots I brought with me were just too much lacing and unlacing at every casting… the boots also gave me blisters! Coincidentally these shoes gave me blisters as well… and no I cant return them because I got the bright idea to try and cut the back to see if that would help… It didn’t. So now I’m stuck with them!
  • These are one of the THREE pairs of shoes I brought with me, the simple pair of heels purchased for castings were just perfect! unlike most my other shoes…
  • FREE! These shoes were a gift from the Model Lounge! all the models got a pair of Havaianas flip flops, I wore mine one day and sadly tripped and got a nasty cut on my toe.
  • TOMS. Good old TOMS, these ended up being the shoes I wore every day. They didn’t give me blisters, they were easy to get on and off, they were just perfect! Except for the slowly growing hole in the toe… I guess it’ll be time for more tape when I get home!
  • FREE! Another gift from the Model Lounge! CHARLES by Charles David heels were given to all the model who participated (even if just for 15 minutes…) in the catwalk class held at the beginning of fashion week!
  • FREE! No, these aren’t from Model Lounge, I got these from the runway I did today, Three as Four! These NIKE Gladiator IIs are what the models wore in the show. Afterwards we weren’t supposed to keep them but the designer let one girl keep them and my dresser noticed and told me the were giving them to the girls! When I asked the lady in charge she said, “I’m not supposed too but you can take yours, just don’t let any other girls find out.” So in the end me and two other models snuck out of the show with free NIKE sandals!
  • FREE! These were given as trade to the models from my first show Candela… unfortunately the largest size they carry is a ten… so I am hoping I can sell these shoes somewhere!
  • This is the third pair of shoes I brought from home (the second pair was my TOMS). These are my combat boots from Target that I’m hoping I can return when I get home because these gave me blisters!
  • FREE! A pair of sandals that happen to fit me that a girl left in the model apartment… shh, don’t tell anyone I took them!
  • the last pair!!! These combat boots were also free, given out after the Theyskens' Theory show to all the models! We wore them in the finale and after the show they just let us all take them! Too bad these are also a size too small… curse my large feet!

So in the end I came here with three pairs of shoes and I am leaving with…

*drumroll*

TEN PAIRS!!

use

080 The storefront at Rockefeller Plaza!

059On the wall behind just a few of the flat screen TVs with Wii consoles hooked to them is a print out of the first level of the first world of Super Mario! The store had at least ten other TVs set up throughout it with Wiis and tons of games for the shoppers to play on! I tried to play Mario at one point and couldn’t even figure out how to start… I guess I will just stick to the NES and Gameboys.

Speaking of Gameboys! There is a display case with every single Gameboy model that has been sold, they even had some that were themed around different games and an autographed one!

007The NES!! We still own ours from when my mom was around my age, it’s my favorite game system, mainly because I understand how it works! : )

061Here is one of the play areas for the Gameboy, they had a few other tables like this this with even more Gameboys so that there will never be a guest without a game… (If I am right there was the 3D Gameboy as well, but I couldn’t be sure… If it was the 3D one it really is not holding up to all the hype in my opinion).

081 An aerial view of the “Pokémon Center” which is really just a section of the store with a bunch of stuffed Pokémon, trading cards, a few tee-shirts and three TVs playing walkthroughs of random Pokémon levels. Thomas would have loved that part of the store!

060 The best part I thought was that on the way out you can have your picture taken with Pikachu! I also love that he’s throwing up a peace sign, my kind of guy! : )

salty pimp

The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop is home to my new favorite iced treat, the Salty Pimp! It's a vanilla cone with caramel sauce, salt and a chocolate dip! :)

On a side note, the line to the store is out the door every time i walk by, clearly they are doing well!!

This is the magnificently large unicorn mural on the side of the shop, complete with rhinestones!

235 days.

How long has it been now? 235 days and one hour since my last post!! it's clearly time for a new one.

A little recap of what's happened since my last blog, did Fall/Winter 2011 fashion week (FW), went to London and Paris with modeling, beach vacation, Seattle vacation, Disney land (clearly a lot of vacations) and now I am right back in NY doing FW all over again!! Like last season i am going to grace the catwalks of Milan and Paris with my mile long legs, this year i am also going to make a stop in London between NY and Milan however. With only 2 days and 7 hours left until the final day of NY there is still many more weeks of fashion in the other cities. All any model can think about though is how physically DEAD we all are! from running from one casting to another and then squeezing a fitting in there every now again we are truly strethed as far as the human body can stretch. So for now all I can do is await the day fashion week (or months as i like to say) is over and i can rest for even just a day before jumping into a plane to go to another city to model, model, model!

New York, New York–Day 1 Part 2

In the apartment! When my plane landed I went to baggage pick up where I was greeted by a bald short man with my name on a card… we went to the car then commenced on the drive to the building. Once I got to the building I got my key and came up to the room. Except there was one problem, I went to the fifth floor of the wrong building… someone told me the room I was looking for was in the second building, so I go downstairs go out the door to the enclosed sitting area and the walk ten steps to the second set of buildings J when I got inside I went to the fifth floor then went right into my room, when I got into my room there was one other model here, she doesn’t really speak English. Shortly after I arrived another girl showed up, speaking some English she said hello and told me how to get onto the internet… which is very helpful because with the internet how would I blog? Precisely, i wouldn’t, any who now you are all caught up.

New York, New York – Day 1

Currently I am sitting on the plane flying to New York; so far everything has been smooth sailing. My mother and father escorted me to the security gates after helping me check into my flight. True to my parents form they stuck by my side until we got up to the security gates. Once arriving at the first check point of the airline security system my parents ducked under one of the dividing ropes and watched from a distance as I handed over my ticket and passport to be inspected. Once passing this oh so simple test I continued to the x-ray belts, I removed my coats and shoes and placed my bags and such in the plastic bins. Then I watched as they disappeared into the x-ray machine. Once my things were successfully gulped up the x-ray thing I went through my own x-ray scanner, without a single beep I might add. To my joy I did not have to go through one of those high tech new body scanners, just the simple old one. After collecting my things and zipping my boots I walked to my gate, which was luckily the first one after security. I then sat down and waited. When they finally called my flight to bard at five forty eight I did just that, I boarded my flight. When I got to my seat I found that I had to share it with another girl, she seemed nice enough so I wasn’t upset. But then boarding ended and guess what, an empty row! That’s right, the empty row, oh you bet I jumped on that like white on rice. Sadly this is an emergency exit so let’s cross our fingers that this plane stays airborne until it’s meant to go down. Well I believe that gets you up to date with me, obviously this wasn’t posted until I got to the apartment but that is beside the point… stay close and I will have another bloggy woggy out soon!

XO Bethany.

10.1.06–altered clothing. bleak to chic or bleak to freak?

So these are some of the before and after pictures from the book “Altered Clothing”. The first few sets are ones that I think are just downright bad.
